Pencader Museum and Research Center, Newark, Delaware

Their mission is to provide an enriched educational program about the Pencader area and to preserve open spaces, green ways and historically significant parcels, artifacts and buildings.

The many outreach programs include an annual Flag Retirement Ceremony, and a Battlefield Memorial Service honoring all military personnel. The French Ambassador to the United States and a representative from the German Consulate in Washington D.C. have attended our special events.

They are the original sponsor of Cub Scout Pack 1777 and participate in the Wreaths Across American Program every Christmas. They established a Student Leadership Seminar with a local high school and have a corresponding relationship with a school in Pencader, Wales.

Throughout New Castle County, in many of the county parks, they have installed informational educational signs explaining the history of the area.

Their research center has documents that are not found anywhere else in other Delaware museums. The library contains hundreds of books, periodicals, maps, photographs, archaeology studies, and information on everything from agriculture to ancestors.

The cultural heritage of the area is shown in museum exhibits about the Finns, the Swedes, the Dutch, the Germans, the French, the Native Americans and the African Americans including (both slave and free.)

The autograph collections features original signatures of famous politicians like the Roosevelts, along with humorist Will Rogers.

Located only 5 minutes from the 1A and 1B exits off of I-95 our museum is located on the site of the only Revolutionary War battle fought on Delaware soil.
