Elsie Williams Doll Collection - Georgetown, Delaware

doll museumElsie Williams Doll Collection - Georgetown, Delaware

Visiting this site will give you an opportunity to see dolls from all over the world.  Elsie Williams was the wife of US Senator John Williams and had the opportunity to travel all over the world and collect dolls.

When she donated her collection to the Delaware Technical & Community College it would be observed by all that had an interest in them.

The dolls tell a wonderful story of the history of different countries, including the United States.  The dolls all have an immeasurable value of history.  These dolls were the beginning of the collection to the school, since then there have been other donations to add to the diversity and value of the collection.

Anna Teel of Seaford donated part of her extensive collection in 1992.  Each doll was a gift to her from her husband.

There are dolls from Berlin, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and places in-between in Mrs. Teels’ donation.  Each has a unique persona representative of the place of origin. Each one has a specific time period or is typical of the world it represents.  Many of the cloths were handmade and individually fashioned and, thus, now are irreplaceable.

Kathryn Megyri donated her dolls too.  This selection of teacher dolls came from the collection started by her mother in 1962.  Kathryn decided to continue the collection.  Each of the dolls is intended to represent the backbone of the American Education system, the teachers.
