Treasures of the Sea Exhibit - Georgetown, Delaware

gold and silver displayTreasures of the Sea Exhibit - Georgetown, Delaware

There are museums and then there are museums!  This one has over $4,000,000 in artifacts, including silver ingots and coins, bronze cannons, gold coins and chains, sliver artifacts, deep green emeralds from South America, and religious articles featured in the permanent display housed in the college library building at the Delaware Technical and Community College (Jack F. Owens Campus).

In 1622 the Spanish galleon, Nuestra Senora de Atocho and its sister ship the Santa Margarita were wrecked on a coral reef with all passengers, crews and cargo lost.  It took over 360 years before the treasure could be located.

Exhibit patrons may also view a 17 or 34 minute video on the search for the ship and it’s treasures while listening to a recording by Mel Joseph on the finding of the cannons.

A costumed tour guide will take you through the Exhibit and allow you to touch real 17th century cannons and cannon balls, run your finders over a silver ingot, trace the path to the New World on a map and see all the priceless artifacts including gold and emeralds.

Guided tours are available at your convenience with at least 10 paid admissions; please give at least one week advance notice for the tour.  The tour length is one and a half hours with the costumed tour guide.

Admission: $2.50 for adults, $2 for seniors 65 or older, $1 for students.

Group Limitations: A maximum of 60 people can tour at one time.
